Exploring and Leveraging Strengths

COACHING PROMPT OF THE WEEK

What are your strengths?

Leaders often start a developmental conversation with their limitations top-of-mind. Using a Coach Approach, it can be helpful to reorient them to examine their strengths. A strengths-based approach creates a more optimistic and productive environment. Consider asking them the following questions to further explore their gifts and strengths:

  • What are you naturally good at?

  • What are you often complimented on?

  • What do you believe sets you apart from others?

Remember that coaching isn’t telling! Coaching is about staying curious and making space for those in our care to become confident authors of their own stories.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Keeping our teams engaged, motivated, and fulfilled is really challenging. The leaders we want to follow consistently and persistently attend to hygiene factors of job satisfaction, like pay and job security AND they strive to motivate their teams by recognizing and rewarding their hard work.

The opposite of pain isn’t pleasure – it’s NO PAIN! When we started leaning into making our teams’ work worlds the best they can possibly be, they’ll grew personally, and the whole team’s performance with thrive as a result.

What can you do to attend to both sides of the equation in your work environment?

Share this week’s video on Two Factor Theory with other leaders on your team.  Consider the following and discuss with your fellow leaders:

  • What are additional ways you can improve Motivating factors, such as Recognition, Empowerment, and Developmental opportunities?

  • On a Scale of 1-10 (ten being high), what would you rate your team with regards to Hygiene factors, such as Pay, Work/Life Balance, and Security?  What might you do differently to improve on this scale?
