What IS In Your Control?

COACHING PROMPT OF THE WEEK
“What is in your control?”
This is a powerful question for helping your team members focus on the aspects of a situation that they can influence and let go of those that they cannot. Sometimes it’s the things we CAN’T control which have the greatest control over us, and helping your team members understand this can lead to real insights. You might ask some of the following probing questions to keep the conversation going:
When you look at this situation, what are some factors that are completely out of your control?
What can you do to influence the situation?
What are some positive aspects or opportunities that you can identify?
Remember that coaching isn’t telling! Coaching is about staying curious and making space for those in our care to become confident authors of their own stories.
