When do you feel most like yourself?

COACHING PROMPT OF THE WEEK
“When Do You Feel Most Like Yourself?”
This is a terrific question to help your team members improve self-awareness and promote authenticity. Questions like this can help to identify and cultivate healthy work environments and activities that support personal well-being. You can ask this question in a one-on-one meeting or developmental conversation to demonstrate a commitment to your team member’s personal growth. Consider asking these follow-on questions:
What activities make you feel truly alive and engaged? (e.g., creative pursuits, spending time in nature, engaging in meaningful conversations).
What environments allow you to feel most comfortable and at ease? (e.g., alone in nature, surrounded by close friends, in a quiet space).
With whom do you feel most comfortable being yourself? (e.g., close friends, family members, mentors).
Remember that coaching isn’t telling! Coaching is about staying curious and making space for those in our care to become confident authors of their own stories.
FROM THE VAULT
Deep Listening!
Ever find yourself only halfway listening to someone you're in a conversation with?
I know I'm guilty of it 🙋♂️.
If you're like me, it's not that you don't care what the other person has to say - you may have your to do list running through your head or be otherwise distracted. You may even be running through what you want to say next!
Regardless of the reason, listening to respond can prevent us from fully engaging. And at times, it can even inadvertently come across as rude or aloof.
It may take some extra effort, but active listening and deep listening can help show your genuine interest, build trust, and grow meaningful connections. And you may end up observing and learning some things along the way that you wouldn't have noticed otherwise.
My challenge to you for the rest of the week: find opportunities to lean in and practice deep listening around your team members, colleagues, and loved ones. They deserve our full attention! Give deep listening a try, and be amazed by the results.

“People will love you. People will hate you. And none of it will have anything to do with you.”
– Abraham Hicks
Try as we might, we can’t control what other people think about us. The paradox, then, is that sometimes we let what other people think and feel about us control how we feel.
This is a powerful reminder that while we can influence what other people think and feel about us, we might benefit more by focusing on being true to our own values and worrying less about others’ perceptions.
