What's the Cost of NOT Taking Action?

COACHING PROMPT OF THE WEEK
“What’s the Cost of NOT Taking Action?”
This is a highly effective coaching prompt you might consider asking your Team Members when they’re stuck or procrastinating.
It’s also great when you want to help someone who might be lacking in motivation, even when they’re sure about the way ahead.
Their losses might include tangible outcomes like missed wages or worsening health effects, or something more abstract like time wasted or feeling unfulfilled.
However they answer, you can help your team members explore these potential downsides in a structured way, often leading to a powerful realization that spurs them towards action.
A few follow-up questions you might ask include
What’s been the main barrier preventing you from taking action so far?
What support or resources would help you overcome these costs?
What would the payoff of taking action be?
Remember that coaching isn’t telling! Coaching is about staying curious and making space for those in our care to become confident authors of their own stories.
In our fast-paced world, it's easy to believe that more is always better—more tasks, more responsibilities, more action.
We often pile on new initiatives, processes, or tools, thinking that adding more will solve our issues.
This tendency is called Additive Bias!
Though it can seem counterintuitive, sometimes doing less can lead to greater impact.
Next time you're faced with a challenge, resist the urge to immediately add more to your plate. Instead, ask yourself, "What can I take away to make a bigger difference?"

“Today I shall behave as if this day is the day I will be remembered.” – Dr Seuss
What a terrific reminder to live with purpose!
It can be easy in the hustle-and-bustle of life to remember to make each day count, but that’s all we ever really have, isn’t it – today?
I like to remind myself and leaders that I work with that we have so little Control in life, but we have lots of Choice.
Choosing to be kind, even when others aren’t. Choosing to be curious, even when we think we know the answers.
You get to choose how you behave and what legacy you are building, one day at a time.
How are you choosing to be remembered today?
Thanks and Be Well!
